TBC2 Through-Bag Connector

TBC2 is a high quality through-bag connector (breach unit) used to make a secure, reliable connection between a vacuum bag and the vacuum pump/supply. TBC2 is completely reusable and built-to-last. It is suitable for all methods of vacuum bagging, including prepregs and is suitable for high temperature and autoclave use.

TBC2 has a male 1/4" BSP thread.

These high quality Through Bag Connectors are a quick and reliable way to connect vacuum hoses to vacuum bags.

The vacuum bag connector is made up of two halves, one of which is placed inside the vacuum bag, the other is placed on the outside. A small hole is made in the vacuum bag and the mandrel of the connector passes through this hole. The two halves twist together clamping around a rubber seal, providing a solid and reliable air-tight seal or vacuum bagging port.

These high quality connectors can be re-used indefinitely.

Hose Connection

The Through-Bag connector is supplied with a 1/4BSP thread. The simplest way to connect the Through-Bag connector to your vacuum hose would be by purchasing a female-to-female 1/4 BSP 1/4 turn valve and then either a 6mm or 8mm hosetail barb.

Alternatively the Through-Bag connector can be used with the VC200 Quick Release Vacuum Coupling. The diagram below shows a typical configuration with the VC200 Quick Release Vacuum Coupling connected to the Through Bag Connector and an 8mm ID Silicone Vacuum Hose (using an 8mm ID Hose-Tail Barb)

The maximum operating temperature of the connector is 204°C which is the limit of the seal itself.

The male thread is 1/4" BSP parallel.  As such we recommend a sealing tape such as PTFE sealing tape to ensure that the fittings end up leak tight.

These connectors are perfectly suited to autoclave use, they are commonly used to 8 bar in pressure, we see no reason why they would not withstand significantly more than this.

The Through bag connector is NOT suitable to be used as the resin feed line or vacuum port. This is because both the resin feed and vacuum port will be filled with resin during a typical resin infusion. This would then cure in the fitting and ruining it rendering it unusable in future.

For a re-usable connector for both resin and vacuum lines, we would recommend our Resin Infusion Silicone Connector. It has specially shaped grooves on the bottom to work with our range of resin infusion consumables and has been designed to work as both a resin feed line and vacuum port connector. Being made from silicone, it is able to be re-used multiple times.

You would be aiming for around a 14mm diameter hole.

To connect the TBC2 to a 12mm ID hose, you will need a Straight Connector 1/4" BSP Female and a 12mm Hose-Tail Barb Connector which when assembled onto the TBC2 will allow you to fit the hose.
