Further Information
Instructions for Use
Always shake the tin or bottle of pigment before use, in case any settling has occurred.
This pigment for silicone rubber should be added at a ratio of between 0.3% and 3% depending on the thickness of the finished silicone part and the intensity of the colour required. We have found that for a really solid colour a pigment level of around 2% seems ideal.
Pigment can be added to the silicone and mixed in thoroughly prior to catalysation or can the added at the time of catalysation to assist in identifying when the silicone and catalyst are thoroughly mixed.
Different coloured pigments can be added together to achieve other colours (black and white can be added to achieve grey for example).
Compatibility
This liquid silicone pigment can be used to pigment just about any RTV silicone rubber, including condensation cure and addition cure (platinum cure) silicone rubbers. These pigments have been tested with our own CS2 Condensation Cure Silicone Rubber and Addition Cure Silicone Rubber but they should also be compatible with silicones from a wide range of manufacturers.
Best results will be achieved when pigmenting clear silicone rubber. Silicone rubbers that already have a colour, such as the white colour of many condensation cure rubbers, can still be pigmented but the final colour of the cured rubber will be affected and so we suggest conducting your own tests when pigmenting none-clear silicones.
Avoid the use of pigmented catalysts which will affect the final colour of the pigmented rubber.
Translucent Tinting
This liquid silicone pigment can be used for translucent tinting of transparent silicone rubber (such as many addition cure silicone rubbers) so that, although 'tinted' with colour, the silicone is still 'see through' - perfect for tinting the silicone on re-usable vacuum bags where it is important to be able to see through the bag however it is helpful that the bag itself is slightly coloured for identification and visibility.
To achieve a translucent colour tinting of silicone, only a tiny amount of pigment is required. We would suggest adding only a single drop at a time until the desired level of tinting is achieved.
