Cerberus is an hand-trike, so a arm-powered vehicle with three wheels, in a "tadpole" configuration, so two wheels at the front and one at the back. It has been designed with the intent to break the world record of 83.02 km/h, Cerberus successfully beat this speed during the 2024 WHPSC, reaching 83.28 km/h and claiming the new world record.
Since then, the car has been further developed for endurance work resulting in successfully beating the world record for distance travelled in one hour at the 2025 IHPVA, setting the new record at 34.90km travelled. Various changes were made to the vehicle to improve its performance, helping to achieve the record.
Several Easy Composites materials have been used for different part of Cerberus. The two main areas where your materials have been used for the prototype construction are the wheels and the supports of the first branch of the transmission.
Wheels
They have been laminated with an hand lay-up process with a closed aluminium mould, and they are basically a carbon fibre-PVC sandwich made up as follows:
The same configuration has been used for the other side of the wheels, with the middle of the wheel supporting the wheel hub.
Transmission
The first transmission branch consists of the path that the chain follows starting from the main crown, to which are attached the cranks, and then on to the gearbox. The gearbox and the chain tensioner are supported by a system of Easy Composites carbon fibre tubes, cut and put together by 3D-printed or milled metal joints or inserts.
Other Parts
Another material used is Kevlar fabric. It is used for the inner layer of the prototype aerodynamic fairing (which is mostly made of carbon fibre). Then, the last addition to the prototype was another carbon fibre tube, used for the transmission. Cerberus was born with a two-branch chain transmission, but in order to reduce some of the issues due to it being rear wheel drive (and therefore having an almost 4 meters long secondary chain), we moved to an hybrid chain-shaft transmission, using the carbon fibre tube as a shaft, with glued inserts and a key to transmit the motion to a bevel gear.
