MW1 Wax Additive Solution, also known as wax additive, is a mineral wax in styrene solution . A small percentage can be added to polyester or vinylester gelcoats to prevent them from staying tacky and ensure they cure fully on the 'open face', useful when doing gelcoat repairs or flow-coating/hot-coating.
Typically added at 2%. Available to buy online in 250g, 500g, 1kg.
AVAILABILITY:3 in stock available for immediate shipping

Polyester and vinylester gelcoats are designed so that they do not cure properly or fully where they are exposed to air. When used as a first layer into a mould this ensures that the inside surface of the gelcoat remains slightly tacky and uncured ready to crosslink properly with the resin matrix of the main reinforcement. Whilst this is good when the gelcoat is used in conjunction with a mould, it is problematic when the gelcoat is used externally (i.e. onto the surface of a part) such as with a gelcoat repair to a mould or when using gelcoat more like a paint onto a surface such as a flat roof.
To overcome this problem a Wax in Styrene MW1 Wax Additive Solution is added to unsaturated polyester and vinylester gelcoats at a low percentage (usually around 2%). Solution MW, which is made up of paraffin waxes in a styrene and white spirit solution, is pushed to the surface during curing and effectively forms a very thin barrier between the gelcoat and the air ensuring that the gelcoat cures with a hard, tack-free finish.
Recommended for use as a gelcoat wax additive when making repairs to damaged gelcoat on a mould surface and also as an additive to gelcoat used to coat a pattern.
MW1 has a shelf life of 3 months.

You would add it before. It wouldn't be a major problem if you added it after. Solution MW is a pretty simple material, mainly styrene (which is already present in the resin) and then the wax which is suspended in it. There's no odd reactions involved so adding before or after would not make much difference but I'd say before just to give you more time after catalysing.
The shelf life of Solution MW is 3 months from date of manufacture.
Any strong solvent such as Acetone will remove traces of the Solution MW wax from the cured surface. In doing so, however, you might be left with a very slight 'dither' texture to the surface (where the wax particles have been removed). This might be fine or you might decide you need to polish the surface, depending on the finish you require.
