Flat braid is a type of narrow format woven reinforcement which uses a continuous weaving process produce a flat (non-tubular) woven tape without a stitched outer edge. At their natural width, woven flat braids have the majority of their fibre oriented at a +45° and -45° but can be stretched or contracted slightly, altering their width and the angle of the fibres. Woven flat braid is a type of dry composites reinforcement; it is not self-adhesive and needs to be combined with a suitable resin system - such as epoxy resin - to create a rigid cured composite material.
The aramid flat braids in this category are woven from high quality Twaron 2200 aramid fibre (of which Kevlar is the best-known example) which makes them extremely strong, durable and abrasion resistant. Aramid flat braid is commonly used to join the two halves of kayaks together where it is often referred to as Kevlar seam tape. We stock flat braid made from high strength aramid fibre in nominal widths from 14mm to 45mm.
