Traditional fibreglass chopped strand mat (CSM) with emulsion binder for use with polyester and vinylester resins.
Emulsion bound chopped strand mat (CSM) commonly used as reinforcement in fibreglass (GRP) parts and in pattern or mould making. This heavier 450g CSM is ideal for use with our Uni-Mould universal mould making system and other applications where you need to build up thickness and strength

Chopped strand mat (CSM or fibreglass matting as it is often known) is the most widely used of all composite reinforcement materials.
Short strands of glass are randomly scattered and bound to create a mat which can then be wetted out with resin and used as a general purpose reinforcement for traditional fibreglass (GRP/FRP) moulds or parts.
Due to its comparatively low performance compared with alternative reinforcements (woven glass fabric, carbon fibre, Kevlar etc.) chopped strand mat is certainly not at forefront of advanced composites but there are still applications where it is used in parts and it is still used extensively in the production of patterns and moulds for more advanced composites.
Typical Uses
Our 450g emulsion bound CSM is suitable for use with polyester and vinyl ester resin systems. For an epoxy compatible CSM please see our powder bound CSM.
How to Buy
This emulsion bound 450g chopped strand mat roll is 950mm (37.5") wide and the mat is sold by the linear metre. The unit price shown is for 1 linear metre but volume discounts automatically apply for larger quantities of mat.
Please purchase the number of linear metres you require. When purchasing multiple metres, for shorter lengths, the fabric will be supplied folded to keep package size and hence shipping costs down. If you need your fabric on a roll for a specific application then please contact us and we will be more than happy to supply it that way. For larger lengths, the fabric may be supplied in two or more pieces.
A minimum order quantity of 3m applies to this product.
Also available to buy in a full 34kg (approx) box. Please select from the drop down menu
Further Information
Emulsion Bound CSM
This 'emulsion bound' CSM is designed for use with polyester resin or vinylester resin which will quickly break down the emulsion binder so that the mat can easily be laminated by brush or roller to follow the contours of the mould.
450g CSM is the recommended reinforcement for our Uni-Mould universal mould making system.
Emulsion bound CSM is not suitable for use with epoxy resin because the emulsion binder will not be broken down by epoxy, making the mat almost impossible to laminate with.

Sorry but we only stock chopped strand mat at the most common 1m width. Remember that with chopped strand mat (CSM) continuity is not important because the mat is already made up of relatively short strands of glass, for this reason, most people will work with a 1mm wide roll and just join the mat together to make the total area they need.
