Job Description

Due to continued expansion of our advanced composite materials business, Easy Composites is looking for an articulate and technically-minded individual with practical engineering or composites experience to join our team as a Technical Advisor.

After training, the successful candidate will be providing expert-level product advice and technical support to customers working with a full spectrum of composite materials, from casting resins and silicones to composite tooling, resin infusion and prepreg technology.

The role will predominantly involve providing product recommendations, technical advice and problem solving to customers over the phone, email and other online channels, but will also include the opportunity to contribute to technical content of Easy Composites website, published technical articles, support material, tutorials and guides.

Although this is a 'desk job', it also involves a practical element including experimentation and demonstration, as well as practical validation of proposed solutions or troubleshooting hypotheses. We also support personal projects and encourage experience across other technical areas of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert product advice to customers.
  • Diagnose and solve customer problems.
  • Conduct experiments, test materials, and develop use recommendations.
  • Produce in-house and customer-facing technical support and troubleshooting information.
  • Compile customer quotations for materials/equipment solutions to meet customer needs.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a fast-learning technical ‘allrounder’ with excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will have a friendly, enthusiastic manner and a natural passion for working with, and advising on, the use of advanced materials in real-world applications.

Extensive and ongoing technical training (including ‘hands-on’ product experience and regular R&D time) will be provided, although the successful candidate will be starting with a good knowledge of general engineering principles and subjects, as well as practical experience in one or more relevant areas, such as: composite materials, motorsport, aerospace/UAV, R/C modelling, product design, boat building, robotics, casting, pattern/mould making or similar.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree-level education in science or engineering subject. Composite materials content an advantage.
  • OR/ 2yrs+ working in a composites industry such as composite materials sales, motorsport, aerospace, boatbuilding, pattern/mould making etc.
  • Demonstrable practical experience of engineering or – ideally - use of composite materials, either through education, work, or personal projects.
  • Strong numeracy skills with a natural confidence with numbers and units.
  • General knowledge of engineering terminology, principles, materials and manufacturing processes.

Desirables

Skills or experience of any composites manufacturing process, including pattern/mould making, hand layup, fibreglass, prepreg, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, casting, trimming, or finishing would be an advantage. As would any experience or knowledge of:

  • CAD modelling
  • CNC machining / 3D printing
  • Electrical engineering/electronics/automation
  • R/C modelling
  • Motorsport
  • Aerospace/UAVs
  • Boat building/maintenance
  • Casting/mould making

Employment Details

The position is full time (37.5hrs/week) and permanent, based in our modern industrial unit in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire (UK). Working hours are Mon-Fri, suggested as 9am to 5pm but could be adjusted to suit.

Starting salary circa £27-37k; negotiable dependent upon skills, qualifications, and experience.
