Wax and Mould Release Agents

Wax and Mould Release Agents

Release agents are the all important barrier between a mould and the part itself. Without a release agent, the part would bond permanently to the mould after lamination rendering both useless.

Release agents are generally one of three types; mould release wax, PVA release agent or chemical release agent. Release waxes are most commonly used in standard GRP wet-lay process and ambient temperature cure processes. PVA is often used as a ‘sure-fire’ release agent on a new mould or where release is likely to be problematic and chemical release agents are more often used with elevated temperature cure processes like pre-pregs.
