Mould Making Materials

Moulds can be made from a wide variety of materials and in a number of ways but moulds for advanced composites need to be compatible with the resin system and curing process they will be used for.

Moulds that will be used to make epoxy based parts are generally made using epoxy gelcoat and epoxy resin or epoxy putty themselves. Moulds for pre-preg parts or parts that will be cured at elevated temperature need to be made from materails that can take this elevated temperature.

Once the mould is made it can be prepared for use with release wax or a variety of other release agents.
