Mould Making Materials

Moulds can be made from a wide variety of materials and in a number of ways but moulds for advanced composites need to be compatible with the resin system and curing process they will be used for.

Moulds that will be used to make epoxy based parts are generally made using epoxy gelcoat and epoxy resin or epoxy putty themselves. Moulds for pre-preg parts or parts that will be cured at elevated temperature need to be made from materials that can take this elevated temperature.

Once the mould is made it can be prepared for use with release wax or a variety of other release agents.

Thick, high build, durable epoxy gel coat for use as a surface coat when making epoxy based moulds (tools).
£24.30 (ex VAT)

High temperature tolerant sheet wax used to create material thickness difference between a pattern and mould in tooling and casting projects. Choose from 1mm, 2mm and 5mm thicknesses.
£15.02 (ex VAT)

Fast, easy and very reliable mould making putty is used instead of multiple layers of chopped strand mat and resin to create the solid bulk of an epoxy mould.
£45.00 (ex VAT)

Plasticine is used to produce mould flanges around parts and also, when used with a filleting tool, produce a radius fillet in corners. Also useful for blanking holes in parts prior to making a mould. Pack of 4x 500g bars.
£6.50 (ex VAT)

Soft yellow wax used in composites pattern making as a superior alternative to plasticine for filleting, filling and joining.
£6.17 (ex VAT)

Box of blue 100 Nitrile gloves suitable for protecting your hands during a wide range of composites tasks. Nitrile gloves should always be used instead of latex gloves when working with epoxy resin. Choice of Large or Extra Large.
£4.99 (ex VAT)

Complete kit including everything you need to make a high quality epoxy mould which can then be used to make laminated parts made from carbon fibre, Kevlar, fibreglass or other materials.
£30.00 (ex VAT)

Large version of our popular Epoxy Mould Making Kit. Includes six times as much material as the small kit (5kgs of putty and 1kg of epoxy tooling gel coat) allowing larger epoxy based moulds to be made.
£79.95 (ex VAT)

Easy Composites' Uni-Mould system is a universal composite mould making system ideally suited to medium to large sized composite moulds. This complete kit includes all resins and gelcoats, reinforcement, catalyst, roller and brushes.
£79.95 (ex VAT)

Natural coloured, 3mm thick polypropylene plastic sheet suitable for a wide range of applications including a none-stick baseboard for pattern and mould making, flanges and barriers.
£9.95 (ex VAT)

Powder bound (not emulsion bound) chopped strand mat suitable for use with all resin systems including epoxy resin. Generally used as a low cost reinforcement for mould making. Sold by the metre.
£1.54 (ex VAT)

Emulsion bound chopped strand mat (CSM) commonly used as reinforcement in fibreglass (GRP) parts and in pattern or mould making. This 450g CSM is ideal for use with our Uni-Mould universal mould making system.
£2.29 (ex VAT)

Full 27kg box of powder bound (not emulsion bound) chopped strand mat suitable for use with all resin systems including epoxy resin. Generally used as a low cost reinforcement for mould making.
£87.21 (ex VAT)

Full 34kg box of emulsion bound chopped strand mat (CSM) commonly used as reinforcement in fibreglass (GRP) parts and in pattern or mould making. This 450g CSM is ideal for use with our Uni-Mould universal mould making system.
£89.50 (ex VAT)

White, fluted, 4mm thick polypropylene signboard (sometimes known as Correx) is the perfect, inexpensive solution to making temporary flanges and barriers in composite mould making.
£8.55 (ex VAT)

Highest quality (Owens Corning M524 ECR 30S), ultra-fine 30g/m2 glass surface tissue/veil with a soluble emulsion binder and enhanced surface integrity for hand-layup processes. Ideal for use as a 'print blocker' or for a smoother finish on the reverse.
£1.50 (ex VAT)

Ultra-light weight 100gsm chopped strand mat ideal for use as a fine surface layer on composite moulds before the main reinforcement is laid down. Recommended reinforcement for the 'Coupling Coat' as part of our Uni-Mould system.
