Kevlar, Diolen and Others

Aramid fibres are a special group of synthetic fibres which, owing to their chemical properties, are particularly strong and heat resistant. Kevlar, a trademark of DuPont, is probably the best known aramid fibre.

Aramid fibres, including Kevlar, are widely used in advanced composites either on their own or in conjunction with other high performance reinforcements such as carbon fibre. Kevlar (and similar fabrics) can provide heat/flame resistance, impact destruction resistance (inclusion of Kevlar in motorsports composites is a regulatory requirement in many motorsports) and are also used in body armour and bullet-proofing to name but a few applications.
